Student Chapter Activities

As a member of the OCOF Student Chapter, you have the opportunity to join in on a ton of activities and excursions, all while building a network, making friends, and building marketable skills and experiences. Here are some of the opportunities you'll get to experience...

Bringing grassroots policy proposals to the forefront of the WV political process, these workshops are meant to inform citizens about policies that they can get behind as well as educate attendees regarding voter empowerment, Try This! WV trainings, and policy advocacy. As a Student Chapter Member, attending/volunteering for one or more of these workshops would mean getting a look at some West Virginian home-grown policy proposals, hearing from and getting a chance to meet legislative panelists, and learning about policy advocacy, voter empowerment, and/or the Try This! WV community health initiative.

Have your own policy idea that you'd like to push through the legislature? Write a message in the 'contact us' section or talk to your Student Chapter President to set up a legitimate policy proposal that the whole Student Chapter can work on!

Check out the 2014 Policy Workshops Video!

After learning about the great policy ideas that are had by local West Virginians at the OCOF Policy Workshops, attend the Policy Symposium to learn more in-depth information regarding the policies, the political process, and what legislators have to say. Engage with the Campaign at our state's beautiful Capitol in Charleston.

Try This! WV Conference

Join the Our Children, Our Future Campaign's sister organization, Try This! WV, as well as OCOF partners and conference attendees in a fantastic new health and wellness initiative in the great state of WV. This annual conference brings West Virginians together to share ideas for building healthier communities, whether it be by creating community gardens, farm-to-school lunch programs, community running/biking clubs, or what have you. Joining in on this experience is a great way to gain volunteer experience, connect with different groups & individuals throughout the state, and even gain some healthful ideas for your community.

OCOF Regional Forums

Each semester, attend a regional community forum right here in Morgantown. These forums are put on by the Our Children, Our Future team and include legislative panels, community goal-setting, and inspiring speakers. Attending as a Student Chapter member would mean getting to connect with people in your area, meeting local legislators, and hearing about legislative goals and priorities.

Student Initiatives

Have an idea of something you'd like to get started on in Morgantown? Tell your President or submit a comment in the 'contact us' tab of this website and we'll get it going! The great thing about the Student Chapter is that we can have our ideas heard and have our initiatives executed. Be creative! Come up with a way to progress Morgantown and/or West Virginia and the Student Chapter will coordinate to mold those efforts. Take charge of the effort and smack that leadership role onto your resume!
